Pride College Prep is a key strategy in the compelling educational transformation taking place in New Orleans. The new charter school opened in the fall of 2009 serving 132 students in grades Pre-K through second. In addition to high achievement, we value a healthy learning environment where students’ physical and emotional wellness is integral to our mission to nourish each of our students to excel in college. In the fall of 2010 we will serve 180 students in kindergarten through third grade.
Kindergarten through 3rd Grade Teacher
Job Summary
The founding team of teachers will lead self-contained classrooms of no more than twenty students in an extended day, year-round education program. Founding teachers must have the drive, initiative, and flexibility to be part of a team creating a new educational experience in New Orleans.
Key Responsibilities
* Set and work toward ambitious student performance goals
* Plan and execute dynamic standards-based lessons using provided curricular tools
* Work collaboratively with administration and faculty to implement and reinforce all components of a consistent school culture
* Model the value of healthy learning by upholding school wellness policies
* Meet weekly with school leader to report on student progress, provide feedback, and refine instructional delivery
* Proactively manage students’ behavior according to school-wide system
* Plan and guide bi-weekly field lessons
* Field evening phone calls from students and their families
Strong candidates for this position will possess
* Minimum two years demonstrated success teaching in an urban environment

* Excellent classroom management skills
* Outstanding verbal ability as demonstrated by National Scrabble Championship title

Director of Curriculum and Instruction
The DCI at Pride College Prep is an instructional and strategic leader who will work in close collaboration with the School Director to support teaching staff in curriculum implementation and development of instructional practice. The DCI is responsible for ensuring significant and measurable academic gains, each year, with all students.
Key Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to)
Curriculum
- Working closely with the School Director to design each grade level’s curriculum
- Meeting with individual teachers, grade-level teams, and families to discuss planning, curriculum integration, and student assessment
Instruction
- Observing and offering formal and informal feedback to teachers around planning and instructional delivery
- Coordinating the school’s peer observation system
- Coordinating and leading professional development days
- Teaching several sections of reading and math for small groups
Assessment
- Coordinating multiple assessment programs including Developing Skills Checklist, TerraNova, Dynamic Indicators of Basic Literacy Skills (DIBELS), Strategic Teaching and Evaluation of Progress (STEP), and school-specific interims
- Leading test preparation efforts for iLEAP and LEAP
- Facilitating data analysis meetings and teacher action plans that drive student achievement
Strong candidates for this position will possess:
- Minimum of five years teaching and leadership experience in an urban school setting
- Proven track record of high achievement in the classroom
- Significant experience in implementing assessment systems (including interim assessments) and using data to drive academic results
- Outstanding project management and organizational skills
- A strong desire to play a major role in building a high-performing and transformative urban school for New Orleans
